OILING: Didgeridoo must be regularly oiled
with almond oil, that is the same used for
other wooden instruments such as oboes and
flutes. It is useful to performe oiling every
time atmospheric conditions (pressure,
humidity, temperature) can change: before
leaving for a trip or at season change.
REPAIRING: Due to vibrations and
atmospheric condition changes, some cracks
may occur along the didgeridoo surface. The
best way to solve this unpleasant problem is
to prepare a glue and eucalyptus dust
mixture to apply on the crack. Vinavil type is
the best glue and do not require the use o
clamps due to its lack of back-action; eucalyptus dust then has also an esthetic function as it avoids to see the reparation after glue hardening (which becomes transparent).
WAX MOUTH-PIECE: Didgeridoo mouth-piece is originally made of bee wax, even if some may also be made of rubber or wood directly taken from the instrument body. There are two ways to manufacture a good mouth-piece: the first one requires wax melting in a container put into boiling water and the following didgeridoo "mouth" immersion; then it must be shaped according to one's tastes. The second way instead requires the application of small hand-heated wax strips which must be pressed on didgeridoo "mouth" until reaching the shape wanted. This second method is a little rougher but works well and avoids to get kitchen pans and floor dirty :-)
